Council President Daniel Nguyen Announces Run for Oregon House
Councilor Nguyen will run for House District 38
November 9th (Lake Oswego, OR) “Today I am announcing my candidacy for House District 38. Over the last 3 years, it has been truly an honor to serve our community as Lake Oswego City Councilor and help to move the city forward”, said Nguyen.
“I am especially proud of the work we have accomplished to improve the lives of our residents by supporting expanded workforce housing options, advancing the city’s Climate Action Plan, investing in our natural areas and recreational facilities, and ensuring that we welcome and celebrate diversity in our community. At the height of the pandemic, we responded to the devastating impacts and stepped up to provide grants and assistance to our fixed-income residents and our main street small business community”, he continued.
“But one of the things that has become clear to me is that many of the issues that will allow more people to build their own American Dream, as my wife and I have, are determined and decided at the state level. And I want to be in the conversation and be a voice for those of us who start with less but with the right support can build more, not just for ourselves but also for our communities and our state”, said Nguyen.
“I’m not naïve about our current circumstances. As a state and a region, we are facing many serious challenges. And that is another reason I am running. I know the challenges of raising a family and what it takes to build a business from scratch, to expand and contract and pivot to turn challenges into opportunities and success. And I will bring those skills and that drive to the state capitol”, he concluded.
Nguyen is currently serving as Council President. He is active as the Co-Chair of the Business Advisory Committee at Portland Community College and serves on the Board of Directors for Immigration Counseling Service (ICS) and Business for a Better Portland (BBPDX). He is also an entrepreneur and CEO of a community-focused hospitality business creating jobs in Oregon, Washington, and California.
Daniel, a Pacific Northwest native, and his wife Katherine set down roots in Lake Oswego to raise their family. Daniel is a son of Vietnamese refugees who escaped the fall of South Vietnam and came to the United States in 1975. Daniel and his wife, with their entrepreneurial spirit, founded and operate Bambuza Vietnam Kitchen, located in the South Waterfront community since 2008. Daniel was elected to the Lake Oswego City Council in 2018, the first person of color elected to serve on City Council, and the first Vietnamese American elected to office in Oregon.
